Message from the Chairman
Dear Members and Supporters,
Our planning for the Ford Minority Dealers 4th Annual Conference is in full swing. We are excited and delighted to have our annual conference in Detroit, the “Motor City.” In a few weeks we will send out a “save the date” memo with lodging information. Ford Motor Company and Ford Motor Credit Company are major sponsors of our conference this year, as they have been in the past. The participation and activities from Ford will be at an all-time high.
It is with great pleasure to inform you that Mr. Edsel B. Ford, member of the Board of Directors at Ford Motor Company will be our keynote speaker for our dinner. Mr. Ford has been a tireless champion and friend of our association for many years and I know you will be energized when you hear him speak at our event.
We know that your time is precious and you have many events that require your attendance but we believe the workshops and information we will provide you with will give you valuable information that you can take back to your operations. Our vendors will make themselves available throughout the time we are together, so that they can provide you with important and timely information as well.
What makes our conference unique is that within our membership dealer body, we have a wealth of invaluable knowledge that is shared among our members. The synergy created from our members that

Ask Randy: What’s the Area of Greatest Focus for the FTC?
We recently sat down with Randy Henrick, Dealertrack’s Associate General Counsel and noted industry compliance expert, to get his advice on FTC areas of interest, as well as actions. Here’s what he said:
Q: What’s the area of greatest focus for the FTC?
A: I believe the FTC is going to focus on digital and social media ads in which the required disclosures are not clear and conspicuous on all capable mobile devices, such as smartphones. The FTC wants the disclosures to be in close proximity to the claims, disfavors scrolling, and does not consider pop-ups or hover-over disclosures to be clear and conspicuous.
Q: What’s the latest news on FTC actions, as it relates to dealership advertising?
A: The FTC just settled enforcement actions with two Ohio dealers for advertising leasing deals not available to a majority of consumers – and which omitted terms required to be disclosed under the federal Consumer Leasing Act and Regulation M. In this case, the FTC emphasized that disclosures in small print at the bottom of the ad were not clear and conspicuous in which event the FTC treats the ad as if no disclosures were made. Both dealers were compelled to sign 20-year consent decrees which means any type of unfair or deceptive ads they make over the 20 years will incur substantial financial penalties.

Message from the Executive Director
Greetings Members and Supporters,
We have officially got one quarter of sales in the book for 2016. Dealers are off and running to another record year. Even, with the high level of profits, our members are not satisfied with their success or are they going to rest on their laurels. Therefore, as an association, it is our job as well to help our members increase sales and market share. For 2016, we will continue our collaboration with Ford Motor Company for the General Manager and Office Training Program. Our members have mentioned to us many times that the key to their success lies within having great employees and management team. Further, by utilizing our General Manager program we are creating a “bench” for future dealer candidates.
Even with the best inventory management strategy, one may find themselves with a unit or two that doesn’t move at optimum level. Again for 2016, Ford Motor Credit Company will continue with its Minority program to assist with aged inventory on your Ford Motor Credit floor plan. The dealers that have taken advantage of this program in the past have had great success moving their aged inventory and enhancing their marketing strategy.
During 2016, we will utilize our vendors as well to increase your profit and market share. Our vendors are preparing workshops and webinars that we can share with you throughout the year. We are looking for ways to defray your cost on the products that we put in front of you as well. As we go forward, we will be calling on our members for feedback via surveys. Please fill out these surveys so that we can
